Dr. Scott Gerber, is a tenured Professor of Law at Ohio Northern University. Dr. Gerber was suddenly escorted out of his classroom by campus security and town police and subsequently barred from teaching and banished from campus. He was told that he must sign a separation agreement and release of claims by a specific date or the university would commence dismissal proceedings against him, based on the grounds of "collegiality" without specifying any specific offenses he allegedly committed.

Dr. Gerber believes that he is facing repercussions due to his objection to the university's "diversity, equity and inclusion" initiatives, which he claims do not include viewpoint diversity and could lead to illegal discrimination in employment and admissions. He has publicly criticized DEI programs that discriminate against white men in the name of "racial and social justice" and has requested that ONU's DEI program address viewpoint diversity, but the administration responded that viewpoint diversity is "not part of our diversity, belonging and inclusion plan."
